Better Midler and Martin von Haselberg have been married for 38 years.
When Bette Midler first met Martin von Haselberg in 1984, he was perhaps less well-known than she was and was already a seasoned singer and actress.
Midler, 68, and Von Haselberg, 65, a German performance artist, commodities trader, and actor, wed in a $45 ceremony in Las Vegas just six weeks after they first met, making their decades-long union all the more remarkable.
In a recent interview with People, Midler, whose stage, recording, and cinematic careers span five decades, revealed the keys to her happy marriage.
“I believe the key is to not always be in each other’s faces, but rather to give each other a lot of lead and space,” the author said.
“It’s difficult to listen well. Compromise is also necessary. The hardest thing to do is a compromise, according to Midler, who also stated that it could be difficult to say no occasionally. There’s no use in fighting. I might get my way on Thursday, but you get your way now. Maintain your mutual support. That’s also difficult.”
When did Liv Morgan marry her husband Jake Anderson? Are they still together?
Similarly, Midler continued, “Choose your battles carefully, and if necessary, just sit and think. Calm down. Don’t make a two-second transition from 0 to 60. Instead, keep your composure and focus on breathing. A vital function is breathing.”
Likewise, the most important is not to undervalue one another. But, she added, do not diminish one another. Don’t always strive to prove each other incorrect. Don’t point the finger. Put an end to pointing the finger. I believe that the worst aspect is the blame. You don’t want to shoulder the weight alone, making it [simple to do]. You want to shift the blame to someone else. But in all honesty, you have to learn to avoid doing it.
Bette Midler and Martin are proud parents to their daughters.
The adorable celebrity couple Midler and Martin welcomed their bundle of joy, a baby daughter named Sophie von Haselberg, two years into their marriage on 14 November 1986.
Likewise, it is clear as water that the couple is also brilliant parents and perfect companions for each other. Their adorable daughter, Sophie von Haselberg, now 36, has grown up to become a successful actress.
Midler thinks of Sophie as her “biggest accomplishment, but I didn’t do it alone, I told People magazine. The best father who ever lived is undoubtedly my husband. He is outstanding. When I was away on the road, he picked up the slack. She learned a new language from him. She learned to cook from him.”
