The world has lost another star. Charlbi Dean, a well-renowned South-African actress, was pronounced dead on Monday at the New York hospital.
Charlbi Dean was an up-and-coming actress, and it is heartbreaking to see such a young and talented soul depart so early. She was just 32.
Here is all about the heart-bittering news.
Charlbi Dean passes away at 32
Charlbi Dean, a 32-year-old South African actor and model best known for her work in Triangle of Sadness, a smash hit on the festival circuit, passed away on Monday in a hospital in New York City from an unanticipated illness.
Triangle of Sadness, which took home the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in May, featured the budding performer as a co-star. It will be screened in US and UK theaters in October.
Likewise, Chalrlbi Dean had previously experienced a near-death accident. According to Cape Town Etc, Charlbi Dean and her then-boyfriend Ashton Schnehage survived a near-fatal car accident in 2009, where she suffered a collapsed lung, damaged vertebrae, a broken wrist, four broken ribs, and an elbow fracture.
She had a scar on her belly due to the accident, which she considered her signature. She even displayed it at Ami Alexandre Mattiussi’s fashion show.
Ruben Ostlund, the writer and director of Triangle of Sadness, paid tribute to the actress on Instagram by posting a photo of her on the set and calling her passing “a shock and a tragedy.”
He wrote that it was a privilege to have met and worked with her. “The entire film crew and Charlbi’s coworkers were inspired by the care and sensitivity. I’m very saddened by the idea that she won’t be by our side in the future.
Nina Dobrev, star of The Vampire Diaries, posted pictures of the two of them together with the caption, “An angel has gone to heaven far too soon. May heaven be all you ever imagined.”
A fellow film critic, Robert Daniels, described the news as “very tragic” in a tweet. He noted: “Triangle of Sadness poised to be Charlbi Dean’s breakthrough album. I couldn’t wait to see how her career would develop in the future.”
Around 20, Charlbi Dean made her acting debut in the film “Spud.”
She had also made numerous other appearances, including Syonide in the CW’s Black Lightning.
Her most recent work on the set of “Triangle of Sadness,” recently awarded the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
The actress had previously told AP that she felt like a winner before the film took home the prize at Cannes. However, she argued that because she could enter a film into the festival, which she found unbelievable, she was already a winner and that any award would just be the icing on the cake.
