Sexual crimes are one of the most heinous crimes in the world. It’s even worse when a parent sexually assaults their children. Yes, such dreadful crimes happen in this unpredictable world.
Unfortunately, however, such a dreadful incident happened to one of the celebrity families. The late American artist Jenni Rivera’s ex-husband Trinidad Marin shockingly sexually assaulted his daughter Chiquis, his second child Jacqie and his sister-in-law, Rosie Rivera.
Trinidad Marin was sentenced to 31 years of imprisonment.
Jenni Rivera divorced her first husband, Jose Trinidad Marin, in 1992, citing emotional and physical abuse. However, two years after their split, Marin was accused of sexually molesting his sister-in-law, Rosie Rivera.
To make the matter worse, he was further accused of sexually molesting his two daughters Janney, better known as Chiquis, and Jacquline, known as Jacqie.
The molestation case against Jose Trinidad Marin opened in 1997. As a result, Jose spent 9 years as a fugitive before being apprehended in April 2006.
He was convicted of eight felony counts – three counts of lewd act upon a child, three counts of oral copulation of a child, one count of aggravated sexual assault, and one count of continuous sexual assault.
At Jose’s trial, the Riveras and the Marins clashed verbally and in the courthouse hallways. Their outbursts resulted in increased security at the trial and sentencing.
Similarly, Trinidad Marin looked sullen and detached as the two victims, now in their 20s, stood in court and offered their forgiveness.
“I just would like to tell my father that I love him and forgive him,” Chiquis said, who was abused between 8 and 12. “He may not think I love him, but I do.”
Wearing a blue jail uniform at his sentencing in Long Beach Superior Court, Marin refused to make eye contact with his daughter or other family members, despite several efforts to speak directly to him. When asked if he would like to make a statement himself, he shook his head. “No.”
