It is heartbreaking to witness a young, immensely talented soul lose itself in the darkness of life. Lauren Bernett, a softball star of James Madison University, died of apparent suicide at the tender age of 20.
The immensely talented catcher and cleanup hitter for the Dukes was an uprising talent in the game. But unfortunately, the world lost a gem of the sport.
What caused Bernett to choose suicide as the only way for her to escape whatever it was that was troubling her? We look in detail at Bernett’s life and try to understand what went wrong with the player.

The school announced that Lauren Bernett, a star softball player at James Madison University, has demised. Apparently, she was just 20. The JMU team and administration shared a heart-touching message.

“Our hearts are aching hearing the news of the loss of one of our student-athletes. Lauren Bernett was a high-achieving member of our softball team and a great ambassador of JMU and our athletics program. Our thoughts are with her family, coaches, teammates, friends, the rest of our department staff and student-athletes, and the entire JMU community. JMU Nation is a close community, and we grieve together.”
According to the authorities, Lauren died of an apparent suicide.

Likewise, the family revealed, “Sarah took her own life.” “Balancing athletics, academics, and everyday life demands overwhelmed her in a single, desperate moment. Like you, we are shocked and grief-stricken while holding on tightly to all that Sarah was.”
Bernett, a sophomore catcher from Pennsylvania, was a key contributor to the college softball team last season to the 2021 Women’s College World Series.
The Dukes won games against top-ranked and eventual champion Oklahoma and Oklahoma State before losing to the Sooners in the semifinals.

The award came after Bernett and the team faced Drexel University over the weekend. The school said that Bernett went 7-for-9 in the series, hitting .788 with seven RBIs and four runs scored.
Bernett was named Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week.
She recorded an amazing four of her seven series hits, including a home run.
