Police arrested Mason Greenwood, the England and Manchester United star, recently for domestic violence and rape.
Manchester police arrested the 20-year-old footballer after his ex-girlfriend released a series of pictures and autoclips on social media. The graphics and audio depict how he had physically and emotionally abused her during their relationship.
Social Media Debacle
The highly graphical footage released by Harriet Robson depicts Greenwood in a very controversial manner.
According to media reports in the UK, the footballer asked his girlfriend to make love, but she refused. Upon that, Greenwood then tried to force his way with her and even threatened her life.
The entire conversation was recorded by Robson in secret and released to the public via her Instagram in January 2022.
News surfaced after two years
Allegedly, it all happened in 2020 when Greenwood was 18 years old, and the two were together. Robson kept this all to herself for two years but eventually caved and lifted the weight off her chest.
Greenwood, who made his debut in 2019, has risen through the ranks and made a name for himself in a short span of time. Being a product of the academy, he is loved by Man United fans all over.

Fans and Friends turn against Greenwood.
However, after the news of the incident spread like wildfire on social media, he has been getting a lot of hate. As a result, his club has suspended him, and his teammates have unfollowed his social media.
Teammate and superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Pogba have boycotted Greenwood from their social and virtual circle. They have both unfollowed him on Instagram.
Manchester United has released a statement saying the footballer will not return to training or matches until further notice.
The Police arrested the 20-year-old on January 30. The Police were arrested after they “became aware of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.”
Currently released on bail, Greenwood is yet to go under trial. Instead, the Police are building up the case and looking for evidence. Nonetheless, Greenwood is set to face prison if the images and audio clips are found authentic. Furthermore, Manchester Police are doing everything to ensure the victim gets justice.
Additionally, video game developer EA Sports too removed Mason Greenwood from their games. His club has recalled all the shirts people had purchased from their shop with his name on the back. This all came immediately after Greenwood’s arrest.

Greenwood’s sports sponsor Nike, too, has released a statement that says they have terminated the relationship with the footballer. “We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to monitor the situation closely,” said a Nike spokesman.
Women violence on the rise
Violence against women has not decreased in our society, no matter how developed we become. Upon that, Mason Greenwood, a reputed footballer, doing such a shameful act on his girlfriend begs the question, how safe are our women?
Furthermore, Women’s rights advocates have taken to social media and asked for strict punishment to Greenwood, and rightfully so. We hope he gets a punishment that fits the crime.
